So here's the deal. The plan is to have an update before the uh... 31st! Why? Because that would mark 2 years of not updating. We don't want that. =P

The roadblocks: I've lost everything sent to me between then and now. Eheh. Well, I might possibly have it, but please don't make me dig through two years of email. I will cry.

So... help me out here? See if I can get about two submissions out of you people. =P Since I'm thinking a whole 3 people might actually see this.

With that, I'll see you before Halloween. :)

Hi.

So, it’s been 7, 8 months now since the last update. I can’t even really claim that this is an update, because I don’t actually have anything new to post. I’ve gotten submissions here and there, but I don’t have anything ready to post right now. I’m not even sure why I’m writing this. Call it a whim.

Strange as it may be, I’ve visited my own site several times in the last few months. Wandered onto the message board and the like. But for some reason, I just haven’t been able to sit down and do an update. I haven’t even been able to put together some sort of update for this front page. I guess I don’t really know how to explain why I’ve been gone so long. It just sort of happened. Maybe a thousand other things pushed their way to the surface, and I just didn’t have time for this. Maybe school finally got the best of me, and I’ve opted for homework instead of site work. I don’t know.

I’m back now though. I think I really needed a break from a lot of things. A chance to step back, clear my head. I make no promises about updates. I honestly don’t know how long the next real one will take me. But what I do know is that a long time ago, I promised that I wouldn’t abandon the site without a word. I intend to stick by that statement. When it’s time to give up the site completely, I’ll let everyone know. For now, I’m just going to take it as it comes. So welcome me back, and onto another year. The site’s four years old now. Turned four back in May. Amazing.

Wah!  I'm tired!  Maybe I've just been staring at the computer screen for too long because I did all that in one sitting.  Bad idea.  Should always spread this stuff apart.

I'm on break right now.  Just until school starts up again towards the end of August.  It'll be nice to have these two weeks with a little bit less that has to be done.  This update has been lurking in the back of my mind, and it wasn't letting me get anything done until I did something about the non-updated-ness of the site.

My poor counter has finally given out.  Actually, the counter I have isn't free any more.  =(  So, I will remain counterless for a while.  It was at about 111,000 when it died on me.  I'll have to look around for another one.  Add it to the 'To Do' list.

That list is massively long, I might add.

I actually managed to update DBX.  o.O  Shocking, I know.  I always seem to sit on completed chapters forever before they make their way up.  I meant to put that chapter up last time, but I ran out of time.  Well, if I had waited on fixing the chappy up, it would have delayed the update.  And delays often lead to non-existence.  At least in this site they do.

The new section is on hold for the moment.  -_-  Tho I s'pose that's just as well.  Being as I can barely manage the upkeep of the existing sections, another one would be pure insanity.

Heavens knows I don't need any more of that in my life.

(Side note!  Anderea, Lolli!  Yipe.  I'm not ignoring you guys I swear!   I'll be back to the message board shortly to plague you with long boring entries.   ~_^)

Oh yeah, thanks go out to Jamie who alerted me to the two broken links I fixed today.   At least I hope I fixed them.  ^_^;;

(I started this update yesterday!  Just passed midnight a few minutes ago.   Gah!  Sleep.  I want sleep!)

Hey. ^^ Summer is loverly, isn't it? I'm guessing you're all sick of hearing my apologize for my, um, inability to update when I say I'm going to. >_< So, I won't. How's that?

Anyhoo, everyone on summer vacation yet? It's June, isn't it? As for me, I'm back in class again. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to concentrate during the summer. I'll be sitting in class next to the window (yes, a strategically picked location), and usually I'm sneaking glances out of it. At least I have windows in these two classes. I went through high school with no windows. o.O Ack, my school was weird.

It's a big ole update today. I've tried to put this one up about three times now. >_< It just never quite happened, so since I took the day off work today, I had to finish it. I've been staring at a computer screen for the past hour or two through my sunglasses. ^___^

Why sunglasses? Because it's so darn bright! Heh, I went to the optometrist (I really haven't a clue how to spell that and WordPad doesn't have a spell checker... doh. >_<), er, the eye doctor today. They dilated my eyes, and everything is just so much brighter. >_< Ach, I didn't even wanna open my eyes when I left. Of course, today was a very bright and sunny day. Yesterday, it was dark and cloudy. Today, sun everywhere. Go figure.

Anyhoo, so right now my eyes are freakin' huge. O.O Pupils, whatever. =P But the sunglasses help. It's just kind of funny wearing them inside and while I'm typing, y'know. But if I can finally get contacts... ^______^ Ah, that'll be nice. I'm getting kind of tired with my glasses. I really should wear them all the time, but... eh heh, let's just say I've gotten used to watching a slightly blurry world. ^_^;

Heh, but enough of that. o.O It's been three years! *cheers* I made it! Three years! Woot! Heheheh... actually I kind of missed the actually three year mark, but close enough, right? ~_^

Ok, I think that covers everything. I'm getting tired of the whole staring at the computer thing, so I'm just gonna upload this all and hope everything works. ^__^ Hopefully there won't be broken links everywhere. It seems that everytime I do an update, something manages to slip by unnoticed. >_< Oops.

Well the semester's alllllllmost over.  I've got a week of exams left and then three weeks off.  Woot!  And then, it's back to class.  o.O   "What?" you said?  Heh, yep.  Taking a couple of summer classes.  And working.  But wait!  There is a light at the end of this tunnel.  The job's still only part time and the classes are part time.  Two parttimes make a full time (ok, well maybe not exactly but humor me).  And that, everyone is manageable.  This semester was a part time job plus a full time and a little bit more class schedule (full time is 12 hour minimum, and I took 17) which made for a lot.  So yeah.  Updates might possibly return to normal again.

Tho the weeks I'm on break I might not be anywhere near a computer.  >_<   But, if there is one within reach, you can be sure I'll try to update.  Once again, I've got to think you all for being so nice to me.  Heheh.  Yeah.   Nice.  ^^

Heh, I noticed that my sister signed my guestbook.  o.O  *gasp*  I never thought I'd see the day.  Heheh, quite a surprise to see her sign it.  It's funny because it makes me thing about how few people who actually know me in person know anything about this site.  I guess I like keeping my online identity and real life one pretty separate.  Also the anonymity of the computer is kind of comforting, y'know.  Heh, besides, if you all saw me you'd all run away screaming.  ~_^   Hideous as a cave troll I am.  Hee, well maybe not that bad.

And onward I plow, taking up webspace and your time.  ~_^  One of the perks it is.  =P

While going thru the g-book, I also noticed a couple of familiar names.  Assasin Zero!  I doubt you're reading this, but hey hey hey!  Heheh, it's been forever.  Can you believe the site is still up?  I can barely believe it myself.  o.O  Heheh.  And Lolli!  Wah!  Bad me!  I've been horrile at the email thing lately.  >_<  Akira's back too, huh?   His site's back up and running.  I can't remember the addy right now, but it's in the links page.  I think I remember seeing Sophie's name floating around the book somewhere.  Haven't talk to you in ages either.  -_-   And, Anderea, of course.  Hey hey.  =(  Miss our AIM convos horribly.  We'll have to figure that out somehow.  =P

Anyhoo, there was a trip down memory lane.  ^^  Which leads me right into the next topic...

I've been thinking about adding something or other to the site.  Heh, I can barely manage to maintain what I've already go up, and here I am, wanting something new.   May's going to roll around pretty soon, and with May comes the 3rd year mark for the site.  Three long years.  o.O  Shocking, ne?  Come May, I get the urge to expand or change things around.  The new (well, not so new anymore, heheh) layout was meant for the two year mark but came much after.  I'm not about to go through a make a new layout for the third year.  That'd be way to much work.  -_-  *shudders*  Just thinking about that scares the me senseless.   But I want to do something to kind of mark the occassion.

So, that said, any suggestions?  I'm not really sure what more I could add, keeping this still as only a fanfiction page.  Me, personally, I'd kind of like to see more down with fanart and such.  Heheh... ^^

Heh, thinking about the three year mark brings back memories (hee, more memories.   I'm memory-ful today, aren't I?) of this site's oh-so-meager beginnings.  o.O  I don't know if really any of you can remember it's first days.  Hee, for that matter I barely remember.  =P  Well, it's survived the change of address, the erratic updating, huge increase in visitors, various layouts, and just about everything.  I'm proud of the little site.  =)

Oops, sorry.  I'm rambling more so than usual.  I guess my updates have become kind of a stream of consciousness thing.  I type out whatever happens to be passing through my head at the moment.  And my head can be a very odd place sometimes.  =P

Well, it's no longer the 3rd. It was the 3rd when I sat down to start this update, but it's not anymore. o.O What does that tell you?

Anyway, um, I guess you can tell by the title line up there that I don't have an update. Again. *ducks* I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. *sigh*

Want the whole story? Actually, I've thrown these at all of you way to often lately. My apologies again. Um, basically, the short abridged version is that I'm on a computer without a floppy drive. o.O Didn't know those existed... And the update is, of course, on a floppy. And that's why.

On the bright side, I did manage to fix the crossovers page. Yay, go me. Thanx to the many (and I do mean many. Heehee, you guys are all really observant. You'd be surprised how many people told me the link was messed up) people who pointed that out to me.

Anyways, I thought I should at least update this main page to tell you all that, yes, I do still exist. I posted on the message board a while back that I had an update all ready, but fateback wouldn't let me in. *sigh* I swear, the web world is against me. Heheh. So, next week.

And haven't we all heard that before?

I've been away for a while, and this update shows it. Hopefully all of that will keep you busy for a while, right? ^_^

I guess an explanation might be in order, huh? Well... stuff happens.

Where to begin? It's kind of funny, looking over my last update in November. Wow. I said I wasn't going to disappear during exams again. I fully intended not to, but I guess things didn't quite work out like I had hoped.

Blame it on the fact that I have a job now. Not a full time job, of course. I really don't think I could handle school and a full time job, but you'd be surprised how much time even a part-time job can take up. Well, not all of you. I'm sure a lot of you have jobs, too. It makes for a hectic day, doesn't it?

I suppose we could assign more blame to the fact that I have no foresight. And what does that mean? Heh... a suggestion I might offer all of you. If you ever think about reformatting your computer, make sure you have ALL of the drivers you're going to need. Otherwise, it'll take a while.

I don't know how many of you have ever reformatted your computer or even know what I'm talking about, but here's a quick blurb on what happened. I decided to reformat my computer over the break; it was being incredibly slow. I'm thinking it had something to do with the million and half programs I had on it. Needless to say, I really didn't use even half of those. So, I wiped the slate clean, and I'm happy to say that my computer is really fast now. Too bad it took so long to get everything up and working again.

So, we'll say I lost another two weeks to technical difficulties. That doesn't make it sound so bad, does it?

For the rest, I have just one word: classes. Last year I whined about AP classes driving me crazy. Heh, I whined about that a lot, but that good thing that came out of all those classes was a lot of college credit. I started college about 6 hours shy of being a sophomore. Not bad.

Anyway, because I already had so much credit, I've decided I don't want to spend four years in college like I should to complete an engineering degree. I'm going to try to do it in three. o_O It's a scary thought, but I think I can. (I think I can, I think I can... said the little engine that could. Heheh... ah, those were the days. =P)

But, as if that wasn't enough, I think I'm going for a double major as well. Yeah. One degree in engineering just isn't enough. I want two. ~_^ Heheh. I'm not completely positive about the whole double major idea yet, but I think it would be worth it. For less than 10 extra classes, I can have both electrical and computer engineering as my majors.

So, basically, with these decisions comes the realization that I'm not going to have much free time anymore. To finish in three years I have to take at least one extra class over a full-time load each semester. My time seems to be divided between driving out to school, actually going to class, doing homework for all 8 of them, working, and sleeping whenever I can. Can't forget sleep.

If only I could learn to get by on about five hours of sleep a night. Then I'd have a fairly decent amount of "off" time, but sadly, I just don't think that's possible. =P

Hmm... what am I building up to with all this? No, I'm not saying that I'm closing the site or anything like that. I don't want to do that. But, I really can't promise a whole lot on updates. The first couple of weeks of classes are always hard because I'm just getting used to it all again. I think I'm starting to fall into a daily routine, and I think - just think, I'm not sure about this - I think I can manage to update at least twice a month.

Is that a little bit better? I really don't want to give this up, but at the same time, I really need to concentrate on college. It's kind of important, you know? ^-^ So, that's the plan right now. Can't promise anything, and even if I did, I'm not sure how many of you would actually believe me. Heheh.

So... I guess that about wraps up my explanation. But before I make my exit here, I want to thank everyone. I'm am oh-so-pleased to say that I didn't get any "Update faster!" emails. ^___________^ And yes, that makes me happy. I got encouraging ones, and those were wonderful. Thank you.

And I believe that is that.

Addendum:

Well, that was that. The end of the original update that is. The one that was supposed to go up a week ago.

*sigh*

Let's elaborate on the conspiracy, shall we? I mean, I have about an hour to waste before my next class (So, yes, I'm at school. Again. As usual. Surprise surprise. Take your pick of those), and while I could spend that hour doing something useful like my prelab and lab reports that are due when I arrive at that class, I choose to procrastinate some more.

Three days I tried to update last week. Three days it didn't happen. If that's not a conspiracy... what is?

The first day... I ran out of time. I had way too much homework to do, and not even close to nearly enough time to do it. I settled down to start the update, and then decided that it just wasn't going to happen. No problem, I think to myself. I'll do it tomorrow when I have time.

The next day. I settle down with lots of time. Pop my disk into the A drive, and fire up Fateback. I'm all set to upload the first file when I suddenly realize that "The disk in drive A is not formatted."

Uh... what? I put all of it on there when I left home. It has to be there. But no. That'd be easy. Anyway, I can't drive all the way home to get it, so I'm forced to put the update off another day. After the hurried blurb I wrote down there, that is.

Third day. I have not one but two copies of the update, on disks that, yes, work. Finally, I'm all set. Log into fateback. Imagine my surprise when it tells me that the system is down for maintenance.

Argh.

Couldn't even update the main page to tell all of you why the update was late again.

Ah well, moving on. Apparently last week was just a cursed one for the site. This week is looking better. I mean, if you're reading this, then something went right, didn't it?

(On a completely random note: Evidently, I'm a little "return-happy" at the moment. That explains the multiple paragraphs.)

Well, now I've definitely rambled on enough. To anyone who made it all the way to the end of this update. Yay! Congratulations. Heheh. ^-^

And now I'm going to run off to do that homework. For once in my life I'm going to be on time to class.

01/29/03 12:39:31 - Two months later, and the conspiracy continues...

Ugh. I don't believe it. Here I am ready to finally have an update, and suddenly... this computer tells me it can't read my diskette. Now that can't be right.

Grr...

It's a conspiracy, I think. I've spent the last ten minutes switching from computer to computer and trying not to notice some very odd looks I've been given by people who don't understand why I keep switching computers.

Anyhoo... I s'pose I'm forced to concede that it's my disk that's messed up, not the computers. So... I guess that means the update will have to wait another day. Surprised? Doubt it. Delays are inevitable.

I'm definitely enjoying the days off of school.  The semester is almost over, which means exams are coming up soon.  o.O  Aiee.  Help me.

Though this time around I'm going to try something new and actually not disappear while exams approach.  I don't have a backlog of fanfics waiting to be posted anymore, so hopefully I'll be able to keep up now.

On the bright side for me, I've actually had time to write again.  That definitely helps keep everything in perspective.  Writing reminds me why I have this site.

Like I said, the days off of school have been good to me.

I rambled enough last time.  How much can one person possibly have to say?   ~_^  Enjoy the update.

The topic of Beta readers came up in the message board recently.  I think it's a great idea.  For those of you who don't know what Beta readers are, and to anyone who would be interested in being a Beta reader, head over to the message board.  Anderea posted a really interesting idea of forming a group of Beta readers for the site.   Check that out here.  I think it could be really useful.

Now as I sit here munching on my contraband popcorn, I think I feel like rambling a bit.  Yeah, food is prohibited in the computer labs at my school.  Starting to wonder about the morality about breaking the rules only days after writing an ethics essay in which I determined that students have a moral obligation to uphold the standards set forth by the university.

But I have good reason.  Even if it happened a couple of days ago.  Had to sort out my ramblings though.  Shift them around, but this one seems to be the most important right now.

I received an interesting - and I use that term in the broadest sense possible - email the other day.  It wasn't the only of its kind.  I've gotten more like it.   But this one just happened to get under my skin.  Maybe because the day had been lousy to beging with.  Hence, the contraband popcorn.

Anyway, I'll give you a few choice *snorts* excepts here.

"Why don't you update faster?"

Haven't I answered this one about 20 times?  I exist in the real world as well as in cyberspace.  I'm 18, well 19 in less than a week.  I'm in college.  You all probably have at least some idea of how little sleep college students get sometimes.   I'm sorry but I need 8 hours of sleep to function at all in the morning.

I'm at school most of the day, so I don't have access to my computer to even attempt an update.  The computers at school don't have the programs I need.  They barely even have Word.  So when I am home, I eat, sleep, and do homework.   Until my conscience starts to bug me.  Yeah, my conscience, go figure.   Then I'll haul myself away from my books and fire up the computer.  Spend the next hour or hours getting everything ready.  Any idea how much studying and homework I've put off to do this?  How many class I've just barely made it to?

Besides all that, I'd like to think that I have at least some kind of life as well.  I can't live solely on schoolwork and site stuff.  Every once in a while, I actually get out for a bit.  Sorry.

"It can't take that long to update."

Heh.  You'd be surprised.  If it's a chapter or two, then no, it doesn't take all that long.  But take a fifteen plus part fanfiction, then it does.  I could just upload everything exactly the way I get it, but that just wouldn't look right.   There'd be no consistency at all.  It's my site, and I'm a perfectionist.   Sorry.

"Besides, it's not like you write anymore."

Ouch.  Yeah, and maybe there's a reason I don't write much anymore.   When am I going to find the time to?  What, you think it's because I don't want to?  Lost interest?  What?

I want to write.  That was the reason for all of this.  I like fanfiction.  I like writing.  I also like being able to provide an archive of fanfiction for people who like those things too.

Something's got to give.  And as much as I don't like not being able to do something I enjoyed so much, something had to take a back seat.  Unfortunately for me, it had to be that.  But to have it thrown at me like an insult... ouch.  I don't have to do this.  I do it because I want to.

There was more to that email, but I'm not going to resurrect it all.  Actually I'm sorry that most of you had to read that.  A lot of you have been really supportive and I thank you for that.  I really do.  It helps sometimes just to be appreciated a little.  Unfortunately, it's those few negative people who can really put a damper on things.

Whew.  I know I sounded like a whiny self-pitying webmistress here, but it couldn't be helped.  Wanted to get a few things out in the open.  And if I've lost some visitors because of it, then, well, I'm the better for it.

Oh, and if you still happen to not understand my erratic updating, might I direct you to the guestbook?  Anderea posted there expressing all this way better than I could ever hope to.  Thanx Ender.  You've been probably the most understanding person I've met in the 2+ years I've been doing this.  People like you help make it all worth it.  =)
